Recycled Polyester Spandex Fabric
Recycled Polyester Textile (rPET) is made from recycled polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PPT) and polystyrene. This not only helps to reduce the environmental impact of the production of these materials, but can also help reduce plastic in the oceans and prevent plastic from ending up in landfill. By preventing plastics from reaching landfills and the oceans, recycling polyesters gives a second life to materials that are not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfills or the oceans. Recycled polyester is produced by breaking down the plastic into small, thin chips that are processed and then turned into yarn. The process of converting PET into recycled polyesters requires the use of a variety of chemicals, such as polyethylene glycol (PE), polypropylene (PPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). To produce polyterrene fabric from recycled plastic bottles, about half the process is required, while the other half starts with crushing the PET plastic into chips before it is applied to the finishing of textile products.
